Best Stretch Mark Removal Methods

by Allisen Whitwell

Stretch marks are a result of the skin being stretched too much and too quickly. These are most common with pregnancy and can show up just about anywhere Ė on the arms, thighs, belly, and hips. Once you have stretch marks, it is very hard to remove them and it is very likely you will be stuck with them. If you treat stretch marks quickly by using an anti scar cream or by using stretch mark removal creams, you may be able to diminish their appearance.

One of the ways you can remove your stretch marks is to use a stretch mark removal cream with Retin-A in it. The best stretch mark cream usually has this ingredient in it, as it lightens redness and helps the skin produce collagen. Regular and frequent application of an anti scar cream or stretch mark removal cream with Retin-A in it should give you visible results over time.

Aside from using an anti scar cream, you can undergo dermabrasion to remove your stretch marks. With dermabrasion, a professional dermatologist will apply anesthesia on your skin and then use a wire brush to remove the top layer of the skin. This will cause a wound, which will heal and cause your stretch marks to become less noticeable and ideally, in an even tone with the rest of your body.

Chemical peels are also another way to remove stretch marks.  Unlike anti scar creams which you can apply in the comfort of your home, dermatologists can apply a stronger blend of chemical peels in clinics. For chemical peels, glycolic acid will be applied to the affected area, allowed to sit for a while, and then removed. The skin will look reddish for a few days, but when the redness subsides, the stretch marks should be less noticeable.

In addition to using an anti scar cream for stretch mark removal, you can also choose to undergo laser treatments. Laser treatments will allow you to permanently remove stretch marks from your skin. In this procedure, an anesthesia is applied, and the dermatologist aims the laser at the stretch marks. This procedure stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which will eventually fill in the gaps caused by the stretch marks.

It goes without saying that chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser treatments are more expensive compared to using an anti scar cream. Stretch mark removal using an anti scar cream may take a longer time for you to see visible results, but if you donít mind waiting, then this method works just fine.

Do keep in mind though that no stretch mark removal cream will remove your stretch marks overnight. The best stretch mark cream will take some time of consistent and continuous use before you can enjoy visible results. No anti scar cream can magically remove the scars and stretch marks overnight, so set realistic expectations.

In addition to using an anti scar cream, it is also a good idea for you to see a doctor and have your scars and stretch marks assessed. Depending on the severity of your condition, the doctor may recommend different forms of treatment to minimize the appearance of your stretch marks.
