How to Get Rid of Scars

 by Courtney Holloweigh

Who doesnít want smooth and clear skin? Unfortunately, growing up can leave scars on our knees and legs, especially when you play outside, fall off of your bicycle, or get cuts and wounds. Even adults get scars Ė cuts and other breaks on the skin can leave unsightly marks. It goes without saying that prevention is the best treatment for scars. Itís easier to prevent having a scar compared to treating it once itís there. Here are a few ways you can get rid of scars:

         Massaging the Affected Area

One way to get rid of scars is to use natural extracts to massage the affected area. Doing so will help speed up the healing process and eventually make the scar much less noticeable. Some of the natural extracts you can make use of include aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, cocoa butter, onion extract, and Vitamin E oil.

         Having a Healthy Diet

If youíre wondering how to get rid of scars, keep in mind that whatever you eat reflects on your skin. Drinking plenty of water will keep your skin hydrated and looking healthy. Including honey and fresh tomatoes in your diet are said to speed up the healing process of wounds and scars. Green leafy vegetables are also great in keeping your skin healthy.

         Chemical Peels

Having chemical peels done on the affected area is another way to get rid of scars. This is actually considered one of the best treatments for scars, as it allows the skin to regrow itself in a controlled manner. Chemical peels are a recommended way to get rid of scars that are not too deep.

         Laser Treatments

The use of laser treatments to get rid of scars is one of the non-invasive ways to do so. This process helps get rid of scars by smoothening out the skin through the redistribution of collagen. Although it is non-invasive, several treatments may be required in order to see visible results.

         Steroids

Steroids are a great way to get rid of scars. Under medical supervision, steroids can help flatten out and soften the keloids. The steroid is injected directly in the keloid itself.

         Surgery

When all else fails, you can get rid of scars through surgery. The plastic surgeon will cut the tissue out, and use silicone pads so that the new scar caused by the surgery will not be noticeable.

There are other ways to get rid of scars, but the best treatment for scars is still prevention. It is easier to prevent scars rather than treating them once they are there. A healthy diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and plenty of water is one of the natural ways to improve the appearance of your skin. If you choose one of the medical ways to get rid of scars, be sure to consult with a dermatologist to find out which scar treatment is best to get rid of scars depending on your skin type, and the type and size of your scar.
