Natural Ways To Avoid and Treat Dry Hair

Nearly half of all men and women experience overly dry hair. It may not seem like a concerning issue, but dry hair can lead to dandruff, scalp irritation, split ends and the unsightly “frizz” that seems to take over one's head. To make matters worse, fighting the condition often seems like a battle you can't win. You can wash and condition your hair two or even three times a day and still experience uncontrollable dry hair. So, how are you supposed to deal with this condition? Keep reading and we'll reveal some all-natural ways to avoid and treat dry dry hair.

First and foremost, it's important to note that washing your hair too much will actually contribute to dry hair. Even if you are using specially-formulated shampoo or conditioner, excessive washing will strip the natural oils from your scalp. These oils work as natural moisturizers to coat and protect your hair from drying out. Washing your hair just once a day is enough to strip these essential oils from your scalp, leaving your hair vulnerable to dryness and split ends. If you experience overly dry hair, try to get in the habit of washing your hair every two to three days instead of daily.

It should go without saying that using a hair dryer for long periods of time will cause your hair to dry out. Once you get out of the shower or bath, wrap your hair in a clean towel and let it air dry naturally. Although it will take longer using this method, you don't run the risk of contributing to your hair's dryness.

Sun exposure can also lead to dry hair, so you should try to limit your time outdoors. Even if it's a relatively cool spring day, staying outdoors in the sun for too long will cause the moisture in your hair to evaporate. You can prevent this from happening by wearing baseball cap with your hair tucked in. Of course you can take your hair back out when you inside and not exposed to the sun.

When bathing and showering, you'll want to pay special attention to the type of shampoo and conditioner you are using on your hair. The wrong kind can actually make your hair even dryer, which is something you probably don't. Thankfully, however, the right kind will help to moisturize your hair with a fresh, new vibrant look that feels stronger and healthier. A key ingredient that plays a critical role in moisturizing hair is natural olive oil. Once it's applied to the hair, it coats the strands with a thick, protective layer that fights dryness. Read the ingredients on any shampoo and conditioner products you intend on using to see whether or not they contain olive oil.

Botanical extracts are also helpful in preventing and treating dry hair. These all-natural ingredients found in high-quality shampoos and conditioners will moisturize your hair while keeping it smelling fresh and clean. After stepping out of the shower, you'll feel completely rejuvenated with newly-moisturized hair.
